The Session is about a 38 year old journalist and poet, Mark O’Brien, that confined with iron lungs because of his lupus (from the neck down) that he got since he was 6 years old that want to loses his virginity. His desire to loses his virginity came from a proposition when he asked to make an article about sex and disable people. Then he hired a sexual surrogate to help him with lose his virginity.
I am interested with this film becaue it was shown Sundance Film Festival where it won the Audience Award (U.S. Dramatic) and a U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Prize for Ensemble Acting and also when I watch the main actress talking about the film in a THR interview. They are talking about her role as a sex surrogate, that in my mind seems like a professional hooker with a degree in sex. The other thing is that this is a real occupation.
When I was watching this film there’s a little of comedy, drama and romance. The comedy is especially when Mark is trying to console his problems and stories with his priest from the desire of losing his virginity and when the process of the therapy itself. Seeing a priest that talking about sex out of marriage inside a church and forgetting about all what the bible said, it’s really humoring and min blowing.
I like all the acting and story line but overall of the film is quite ok, not that exciting but the story line is quite interesting because they open another aspect of life.
